Fedor: Aleksander has "I’m a star" disease
Date submitted: 07 December 2006
Author: MMA Universe
The following is a transcript of an interview conducted with Fedor Emelianenko for his official fan-site.

In this interview, Fedor slams his Pride veteran brother Aleksander Emelianenko by saying that he suffers from ‘I’m a star disease’ Aleksander feels like he doesn’t need to train for fights and isnt even interested in the help of his brother, Pride's Heavyweight Champion:

In November your brother participated on a PRIDE show in the Netherlands? Tell us about his performance.

The performance was unsuccessful for my brother; Aleksander lost to Fabricio Werdum. According to the trainer, he managed the fight incompetently. He did everything that should not be done, and did not listen to what he was warned about... Sanya (Russian nickname for Aleksander) was probably over confident. It seems that he "fell ill" with star disease; considers himself a great fighter, stopped training properly (we already have not been working together for more than half a year), and now suffered a serious defeat for a second time in a year...

Do you see a solution to the situation? Is there a possibility to help your brother to continue having a successful career? Not so long ago he was defeating his opponents in mere minutes, and sometimes seconds. Experts were saying that winning is a family feature of the Emelianenko brothers.

Frankly speaking, I have no desire to interfere in the affairs of my brother. He is a grown man, and chooses for himself which way to go.

You may be right. It happens frequently that people requesting help or good advice, put the blame of their failures on those who answered their requests and really tried to help.

Yes, we also had a situation after his fight with Josh Barnett. Aleksander partly blamed me for his defeat, even though he did not follow any of the advice that I gave him... It was a good lesson, and now I have no intentions of interfering in his matters.

Fedor also seems to have confirmed the brothers' participation in Bodog Fight: St Petersburg. Also, from the same interview:

Fedor: “Russians and fans of mixed martial arts will have a chance in March to see the "Team Russia vs. Team America" show, which will take place in St. Petersburg, Russia. Roman Zentsov, my brother Aleksander, and some up-and-coming young fighters will participate for Team Russia along with myself.”
