Congratulations on your win last weekend. You defeated Gary Rawlings at Cage Rage 16. Could you describe for us in your own words how the fight went?
Gary was a big heavy lad, so I couldn’t afford to let him get a big lucky punch in. My plan was to take him down and beat him with Ground ‘n’ Pound or a lock, which I did. When we went to the floor I went to the cross position and tapped him out with a shoulder lock.
Do you try and psych your opponent out before a fight?
I love the build up to my fights, so I act normal. Sometimes that can put the fear in to my opponent.
You were sporting two new tattoos on the night, you had "Cage" on your right bicep and "Rage" on the left (See main image). What made you decide to get those done?
I have tattoos all up my arms but nothing on the inside of my biceps. Cage Rage fit great, and I got it done just for a bit humour. Plus, I love to fight at Cage Rage, who knows, Pride or UFC could be tattooed on there next.
Fedor Emelianenko was at Cage Rage 16. Did you meet him?
I did meet Fedor Emelianenko, he is a nice guy too. He said he was enjoying the fights and his time in England.
Do you get fans coming up to you at MMA events?
Yes, I enjoy spending time with the fans at Cage Rage, signing autographs for them and having photos taken.
Could you give us a brief history of yourself?
I am thirty five years young, married to Michelle and have two children. I work full time for Tarmac Surfacing and as a doorman at the weekends. As well as fighting I enjoy Football, Swimming and Bodybuilding.
Why do they call you “Buzz”?
I have been called Buzz since I was a young boy and it has stuck with me.
How did you get started in Mixed Martial Arts?
I got involved in fighting when Peter McQueen, Ian Freeman’s old trainer, started to teach in my home town, Ferryhill. He taught me Ju-Jitsu, so then I decided to put the skills he taught me to the test by fighting and I have never looked back.
You are a well rounded fighter with submission and KO victories. How many hours a day do you train?
I train about two to three hours a day. The training consists of grappling, running, bag work and sparring.
You took two loses to the current Cage Rage British Heavyweight Champion Tengiz Tedoradze. Do you have a personal rivalry with the Georgian?
I was beat twice by Tengiz. He is a very good fighter. I spoke to Tengiz at Cage Rage 16 and have arranged to train with him. So hopefully that will only improve mine and Tengiz’ fighting game.
Is James Thompson on your hit list?
I have met James a couple of times and he is a nice guy also. Yes I would fight James or any of the Pride and UFC guys to get noticed internationally.
Where would you place your self on the UK Heavyweight Rankings?
At the moment I would put myself up there with Tengiz and James Thompson.
Do you know who you will be facing next?
June 3rd, I am to fight Dan "The Beast" Severn at Spennymoor Leisure Centre, Co. Durham. Then again in July at Cage Rage 17, where I will be fighting Pride Fighter, Henry Miller.
Is there anything you would like to add for the MMA Universe readers?
I would like to thank MMA Universe for there interests in me. My wife and children, all my fans, Peter Mcqueen, John Close, my fight team and to all the guys at Cage Rage. Last but not least, to all you MMA Universe readers, keep in contact with this web site to see how my next fights go. Thank you for reading this.
Thanks Buzz and all the best for your upcoming fights.
