Angrrr Management: Night of the Champions - Event Report
Event Title: Angrrr Management: Night of the Champions
Event Date: 17 October 2009
Event Venue: Forest Glades Leisure Centre
Event Location: Kiddeminster

Submitted by: MMA Unltd.
Crowd favourite Chris Rice successfully defended his middleweight belt outclassing Arelijus Kerpe on the floor. After a brief feeling out process Rice took down his opponent and methodically passed to mount. From there the champion was able to bide his time before securing an Armbar 2minutes 31 seconds into the 1st round.

Tommy McGuire looked a hot favourite on paper going in against experienced fighter Nigel Whitear for Angrrr's welterweight title. Heavy handed Maguire carries a reputation for TKO finishes but on this occasion it was a slick submission that gained him the win. Taking a perky looking Whitear down, Maguire passed briefly into mount position before securing a fight ending side choke a mere 1 minute 9 seconds into the first round.

Tim Newman secured a razor thin split decision win over fellow lightweight Antanas Jazbutis in a brilliant tactical battle for Angrrr's lightweight belt. Jazbutis came out firing in the first round countering Newman with crisp jabs and body kicks. Newman looked to be struggling to come to terms with the Lithuanians striking and this perhaps led to him shooting in for a successful takedown towards the end of the round. Newman finished the round in top position landing some solid ground and pound.

With Jazbutis getting the worst of the 1st round grappling exchange it was perhaps surprising to see the Lithuanian take control of the ground action midway through the second. During a clinch Jazbutis jumped guard for a tight looking guillotine attempt. Newman showed great heart to survive the submission with Jazbutis eventually electing to use it to transition to mount. From mount the Lithuanian landed some nasty looking ground and pound securing him the second round.

The third period would again surprise those in attendance with Newman now controlling the striking from the outside, peppering his opponent with jabs and leg kicks. Jazbutis was unresponsive to his coach's calls for aggression and a late Newman take down looked to have secured him the round. The judges returned a split decision in favour of new champion Newman, the Welshman was called out post bout by Wesley Murch for his first defence.

Experienced campaigner Paul Reed secured a slick 1st round submission over Jordan Miller to take the Angrrr Featherweight title. Miller came out looking to strike landing a crisp jab in a fast paced feeling out process. Reed appeared eager to get the action to the ground securing a textbook single leg takedown. Shaking off a Miller Armbar attempt, Reed peppered his opponent with ground and Pound eventually moving from half guard to side control. Miller desperately scrambled to get off his back and regain top position but as he did so Reed was able to secure a tight guillotine, forcing the tap 2 minutes into the 1st round.

Reed's eagerness to get the action to the floor became apparent as MMA Unltd caught up with him after the fight sporting nasty cuts above and below his left eye, Reed explains: "I was training with Nathan Champ leading into the fight and we had a nasty clash of heads. I had both cuts glued together so I could make it. With the cuts I didn't want to box with him, I came out but as soon as I felt his jab I decided to take him down."

Elsewhere on the night Frenchman Cedric Jouvet shocked Lightweight Jim Burman with a textbook Armbar submission from his back 1:47 into the first round. Barman's early takedown was met with cheers from the Frenchman's corner with the UK fighter perhaps unwittingly entering into Jouvet's game plan.

Nathan Champ controlled the standing action in both rounds against Steve Behan on his way to a majority decision victory. Champ counter punched well and pressed the action when needed to catching the game Beeham flush on more than one occasion.

Stuart Davis survived a first round grappling assault from his French opponent Michael Garcia to secure his own rear naked choke submission victory midway through the second round. After hurting his opponent with strikes on the feet Davis followed his man to the floor and landed some brutal ground and pound on his way to the submission.

Paul Croft proved too strong for fellow featherweight Stephen Neesham, overwhelming his man with left and right hands before following him down to the floor to finish with a tko victory a mere 38 second into the first round.

Julian Shuttleworth showed excellent debut ground skills securing a triangle submission victory 2:40 into round 1 against fellow lightweight James Brum.
