FX3: Fight Night 7 - Event Report
Event Title: FX3: Fight Night 7
Event Date: 15 March 2008
Event Venue: Rivermead Complex
Event Location: Reading
Date submitted: 20 March 2008
Submitted by: Nuzik.net
It was pretty much a full house at the Rivermead Complex with the crowd buzzing and a few local lads on the card to add some extra drama and excitement. The cage was supplied by Cage Warriors which is a nice touch to see UK MMA all helping each other out. Some familiar faces in the crowd too, with Andy and Dave from Cage Rage there.

The first fight up was the under 60kg's with Jared Ferre vs Greg Knapp. Knapp had a massive support from the crowd and is definitely a fan favourite. The first round started off very slowly with neither fighter wanting to make a mistake. Only real action of the first round came towards the end where the pair exchanged some good knees and then it was taken to the ground and Knapp had full mount momentarily with Farre pulling guard just before the end of the round. The second round wasn't much different neither fighter wanting to commit with Farre being only just the better in the round. The fight went to all three rounds and in the last round Farre had a chance to put the fight away when he had Knapp in a rear naked choke hold but he slipped out last minute. The fight went to the judges and it was a split in favour of Farre .

Nigel Whitear vs Andrew Burnett was next and again another MMA fight, this is Burnett's first outing at FX3 and he didn't disappoint. Whitear came out trying to psych out Burnett by running around the cage, Burnett was not even slightly phased by this and took the game to Whitear.  It was taken to the matt very early on and Andrew got full mount and the ref had to stop it via ground and pound in the first round. Great debut for Burnett there he is one for the future.

MMA was back on the cards now with Brenden Flanagan vs Nick Osipczak. Brendan was 2-0 in the cage and this was Nick's first outing. Both fighters are under the 23 which makes this a very young and inexperienced fight. The crowd came to life and it resembled a football match rather than a fight with Nick having one of the biggest fan bases there (not bad for his first fight). Both fighters came out quickly and it didn't take Nick long to make his mark on the sport, the game was taken to the ground and Osipczak got full mount and dealt some hammer blows which caused the ref to stop the match by ground and pound with just 1 minute 16 seconds on the clock. Great start in MMA for a young Mr Osipczak.

The crowd went crazy for the next MMA fight between Gary Mather and Dean Amasinger; Amasinger is a very popular man amongst the FX3 fans and especially as it was his debut for FX3. Amasinger came straight out the box like a pit bull he hit Mathers with a slam then another and then another to no reply.  He then assumed full mount, which Mathers managed to wriggle out of, but Amasinger wasn't done and he promptly gained the full mount again getting some hammer blows in and some good shots to the head, Dean must have had Gary in full mount for almost two minutes and he really did take a beating and we gained a lot of respect for Mathers for taking the blows; eventually it was too much and he had to tap.

Cage Rage's Brad "One Punch" Pickett was out next against Frederic Fernandez from France. Brad came out in his usual manor to rapturous applause from the crowd. Fernandez with his JJ background wanted to keep this one on the matt and he did just that, his game plan was going well stopping "One Punch" Pickett from his stronger stand up game. Then the turning point came Fernandez took down Pickett and Pickett then reversed it as he now had Fernandez in full control from behind, Pickett showing that he isn't just a stand up fighter locked in a guillotine choke and Fernandez tapped.

Rocci Williams vs Kym Farid next, Rocco was the crowds favourite for this and received some good action from the crowd. The bell went and within the first 20 seconds Farid caught Williams in the crown jewels and the ref called for a time-out. After a short wait Williams was ready again, and Farid didn't waste any time getting back into things and took Williams to the floor and gained full mount which was shortly followed up by some great ground and pound which the ref had no choice in stopping at 1 minute 11 seconds. Good win for Farid.

The main event was next and last on the list for the FX3 Feather Weight World title Emmanuel Fernandez vs Paul Reed. Both fighters were quite happy leading with the jab from the off, only a couple of knees from both fighters in an early clinch was of any significant. Fernandez did throw some wild haymakers which were lucky for Reed as they narrowly missed.  Fernandez took the game to the matt and showed off his superior JJ skills and the round ended with him firmly in control. As soon as the second round started you could sense that Fernandez felt that he wanted this one over with and hit Reed with a stiff left jab and then a hard right, Reed hit the matt grabbing onto shorts on his way down, he managed to buy some seconds and took Fernandez down with him. That was it, he managed to get into full mount and landed some awesome ground and pound, then out of no where he turned Reed and landed him an a rear naked choke hold and Reed tapped. And still the champion Fernandez.
