Luxemburg's Sportfighting event Fight Fiesta de Luxe celebrated its second edition entitled "Hold our ground", last Saturday 15th at the "Centre Culturel et Sportif“ in Luxemburg-City.
It was another outstanding event even though some highly anticipated fights were canceled at last minute due to injuries and / or sickness, but the remaining fights were all great promotion for the sport. An amazing crowd, one that every promoter is begging to have, supporting all fighters with great enthousiasm, respect and fairness, proved the promoters of the Fight Fiesta de Luxe right when they announced that Mixed Martial Arts would definalty have a bright future even in a tiny country likeLuxemburg, a pixel sized stain on the globe.
Amateur Welterweight Division - 77,5 kg (2x5)
Nuno Sousa Senhor vs Lloyd Osafo
The first Mma fight of the night saw the debut of Nuno Sousa Senhor, member of the local Fight Team Impact and former European Capoeira Champion, against American Fighter Lloyd Osafo out of the German OC Fight Team. Nuno finally got the chance to compete after all the injuries he had to go through the last couple of years. And making his debut in front of his hometown crowd, cheering his name at full volume, certainly put a lot of pressure on the Fight Team Impact member but he did a great job controlling his nerves and fighting a great fight. Both fighters came out straight forward, both simultanously landing punches and Nuno taking the American fighter down. The fight went back and forth and the crowd went crazy whenever a fighter landed a punch or a takedown. It was very close, and the judge's decision was awarded to Nuno Sousa Senhor, who scored most of the takedowns, was controlling his opponent on the ground and landed a great amount of lowkicks throughout the fight. Considering both fighters still being very new to the sport, both showed a lot of skill, heart, and great talent.
Amateur Middleweight Division – 84,5 kg (2x5)
Okan Bulut defeated Harry Baumeister
The second Mma fight of the night featured a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specialist and student of Bjj Black Belt Anderson Pereira, Okan Bulut from Switzerland fighting a German Mma newcomer with big punching power Alex Baumeister from Germany's OC Fight Team. Baumeister made his mma debut only a few months ago and he lost by submission very early in the first round. In that fight he proved that he truly has some great skills by sending his opponent to the canvas.almost knocking him out. But on Saturday night, Baumeister had no chance showing any of his weapons, when the Swiss fighter decided to shoot in, clinch and take his opponent down. From there it was all the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu expert's world. Okan Bulut finished his opponent by textbook Armbar in the first round.
Pro Light Heavyweight Division – 93,5 kg (2x5)
Nelson Dos Reis vs David Benakezouh
Fight Team Impact fighter Nelson Dos Reis, made his debut in the Pro division against French fighter David Benakezouh (Monteiro Montpellier) and for the first time in his young career Nelson fought in front of his hometown crowd. How much would the pressure of competing in front of your family and friends weigh on his shoulders? The looks on Dos Reis' face when he entered the ring showed that he was focused and there no signs of a nervous fighter stepping in the ring, but the looks of a determinedwarrior looking to leave it all out. From the 1st momentum in the fight until the final bell Nelson Dos Reis showed a solid performance, dominating David Benakezouh both on the ground and standing up, scoring a few nice takedowns and almost finishing the fight in the first round when he got his opponent's back and was starting to rain punches but the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter from France was able to escape and stay in the fight.
Pro Middleweight Division – 84,5 kg (3x5)
Igor Araujo vs Apo Gatta Gome
In the main event of the night, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt and ground wizard Igor Araujo stepped into the ring to face Belgium's Apo Gatta Gome from the Belgium Shaolin Team. Araujo fought at the first edition of the Fight Fiesta de Luxe where he finished Marcin Krzysztofiak by triangle choke in the second round and he is currently coming off 5 wins in his last 5 fights prior to the event. That fight had all the drama before the fight and it ended with a spectacular armbar submission by the Brazilian, only very few seconds in the first round. Gatta struggled to make weight and it was only due to a special agreement between the officials and both fighters this fight took place. Apo Gatta Gome is a successful Muay Thai fighter who recently turned over to mma and all of his victories in mma competition came via knockout. The best tools for an entertaining fight were all there, a stand up fighter against a ground fighter. While still some people believe pure stand up skills would be enough to be successful in mma were proven wrong once again when the BJJ expert Igor Araujo took down his opponent in the first second on the fight, clearing a guillotine attempt, passing guard and finishing with a textbook armbar that forced Gatta Gome immediatly to tap out. Araujo not only won this fight, but he also owned himself the chance to fight for the Fight Fiesta de Luxe Middleweight Title at one of our next events.
