The Cagewarriors Fighting Championships Sell-Out The Octagon Centre, Sheffield With Another Exciting Cagewarriors Quest Show
Local fighter Kayvon Fallah makes his mark on his professional debut with an entertaining TKO win. Whilst Chris Rice comes out victorious in the main event against Jim Wallhead as the “Quest” franchise secures its place as Britain number 1 Mixed Martial Arts/Ultimate Fighting Semi-Pro show.
Sheffield, England – Cagewarriors Quest Volume 2 managed to not only follow on from where its first show left off on April 8th but was able to top it in style as an expanded fight card and marketing campaign ensured a full house inside the home of Sheffield MMA the Octagon Centre which need extra seating to cope with the strain.
This was a great achievement for the “Quest” brand which managed to attract more fans than some other previous professional shows in Sheffield, due to its team headed by Rob Butler who targeted the many local MMA clubs in the area and yet again dispelled the myth that big names, big fights and big money is needed to sell an MMA event to the general public.
Unlike the first “Quest” show which was hit by several key pullouts in the week leading up to the event, Cagewarriors Quest organiser Rob Butler only concern was to fill the gap in the main event left by the pullout of local star Ross Pettifer who was injured. However Butler was able to replace him with the rangy Middleweight striker Chris Rice from the UK Storm fight team, as he took on Jim Wallhead who at the previous “Quest” show defeated Heavyweight Steve Matthews inside 90 seconds in semi-pro action.
However this time round things were much different for the Leicester based fighter as Rice had a lot to prove after being knocked out on his previous fight on June 18th and looked in fine form throughout the bout.
Although Wallhead started the bout brightly with a takedown he was unable to make much headway and as the bout progressed Wallhead did not look his usual self and following two breaks in the action due to tape being loose on Rice’s gloves, the action returned to a standing position.
From there Rice was able to sprawl out of a takedown and landed a sweet left which stunned Wallhead who then made the fatal mistake of turning his back to his opponent as he looked to get away from the advancing Rice.
As a result of this referee Paul Murphy charged in and asked Wallhead if he was ok before stopping the fight as Wallhead was quoted as saying that he “didn’t feel right” which left the referee with no option but to stop the fight and give Rice a morale boosting victory.
The other professional fight of the night saw Kayvon Fallah of Sheffield Shootfighters make his debut against the vastly experienced Andy Walker of Poole Jiu Jistu. Despite his record Walker is a good test for up and coming MMA fighters and was here to test the skills of the youngster who was understandably tense in the few hours leading up to the fight.
However the young Sheffield fighter showed no nerves once he was inside the cage and survived two extremely tight armbars by Walker. Some observers felt that Fallah was about to “tap” as his arm looked hyper-extended; however Fallah was able to slam out of the submission twice in devastating fashion which left Walker curled up.
At this point Fallah pounced and got Walker’s back where he unleashed a ground attack consisting of forearm strikes and regular punches to seal the win after 2:13 of round 1, much to the delight of the home crowd in what was a very entertaining bout.
Fallah is by no means the finished article but could well be one to watch out for in the future as he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his former teammate Ross Pettifer who is already a successful professional MMA star.
The rest of the card featured the now patented Cagewarriors Quest Semi Pro MMA action, along with the ever popular Cage Kickboxing bouts. The local fighters brought the fans out in force and resulted in some exciting and intense action.
Highlights included Paul Kelly of the all conquering Wolfslair Academy putting on a sparkling striking performance en-route to a win via a cut stoppage in just 1:21 of the first round.
First time Kickboxer Richard Harding of 3rd Wave Southampton gave up 6 kilos but was still able to score an impressive TKO stoppage win via a spectacular head kick against the tough local fighter Pete Leaviss.
There was also a dominate performance by Lee Livingstone of Rough House Gym in Nottingham, as he put in a first class display when he defeated Richard Taylor via armbar in round 2 of their bout. And local fighter Ben Jagger impressed and brought 120 fans with him to the Octagon Centre as beat “Psycho” Steve Tetley following a huge slam which he followed up with some ground and pound to force an early stoppage.
Although there were some complaints that fights were stopped too early the Cagewarriors Fighting Championships reiterate once again that their main concern is the safety of the fighters at their events. This is especially true at this level which is used primarily as a testing ground for fighters as they embark on their quest to the top.
The Cagewarriors Fighting Championships are proud to announce that this dazzling event will be released for free within the next week over the internet as Cagewarriors shows they are the true innovators of the UK MMA scene, whilst still putting the fans first.
Already the Cagewarriors Quest organiser Rob Butler and his team are busy planning the next “Quest” show which is due to take place at the Octagon Centre on Saturday 17th September and which will feature more high-impact semi pro MMA and cage kickboxing bouts, alongside an intriguing main event as the ever popular Welterweight star Dan Hardy takes on Sami Berik, who will be looking forward to even the score against the Rough House camp following his defeat to Hardy’s teammate Paul Daley on June 18th at FX 3.
