The Wolfslair MMA Academy in Widnes, Liverpool played host to a seminar with Dean Lister, Quinton Jackson and Michael Bisping saving the day after The MMA Superstars Seminar simply didnt happen.

An unbelievable set of events had developed in the preceding couple of days leading to the organiser pulling the plug on the MMA Superstars Seminar and not telling any of his customers, or even Quinton Jackson, Dean Lister, Michael Bisping and Paul Daley, who were scheduled to teach the two day seminar.

The first anyone knew about it was when the owners of the Superstars Seminar venue made an announcement to say that the seminar would no longer be happening at The Liverpool Olympia. This news left everything up in the air, and some very disgruntled UFC fighters. Not the sort of people you would like to get on the wrong side of!!

So it was at just over a day’s notice that Wolfslair Gym decided to step in and try and salvage the seminar for the disappointed participants of the phantom MMA Superstars Seminar.

Fans of the sport had clearly spent a great deal of time and money in travel and boarding expences in order to meet, greet and learn some of the winning techniques from their heroes. One guy had travelled all the way form Kuwait where he works as a Civil Engineer, and two other guys from Ireland actually had to spend a night in the academy!!

So to get everything as hospitable as possible, the Wolfslair staff and fighters alike rushed around to get things sorted.

On the day of the seminar, the place wasn’t as full as had been expected. Perhaps the disappointment that the original plan was not gong ahead had made some give up hope and go home.

This just meant extra attention for the guys and girls that did actually stick it out and train.

Starting at a tardy 2pm, (originally scheduled for 1pm) Quinton Jackson (Pride, UFC veteran), Dean Lister (UFC, Pride FC Veteran, Abu Dhabi Champion) and Michael Bisping (TUF3 Champion UFC Veteran) rolled into the gym to the expected eagerness and anticipation from the waiting fans.

“Rampage” Jackson was never much out of ear shot, as for most of the afternoon his voice could be heard cracking jokes and talking to people about anything and everything, as well as giving his own running commentary on events on the mat!

The plan was for the two Americans and the UK’s Mike Bisping to take an hour’s seminar a piece on there specialist area of Mixed Martial Arts.

It turned out that Dean Lister took a submission and grappling master class for nearly two hours whilst Quinton Jackson entertained the watching crowd with his magnetic personality and quick wit. Quinton was only too happy to sign his own photo’s and pose with fans whilst Lister got down to business on the mat, showing that not only are his skills world class, but his teaching and communication skills are also first class.

What was salvaged from the original disappointment was a great day of fun for the both fighters and fans alike. To be able to get so close to UFC stars as these is a dream come true for most people, especially as the guys were so cool, including their team that they were travelling with.
