Introduction to the club:
The Bristol Goshin Jutsu Combat Academy’s Clubs have been running since the mid 80’s. Teaching Combat Jutsu, Close Quarter Combat/street self defence (which they still do). In 1995 what is now known as MMA developed and classes were arranged for this type of fighting. The club started competing in early pioneering events like the Jujutsu Kumite and knockdown sport Budo before moving into the amateur MMA scene and progressing into the semi and pro arena. Along the way the academy has been open – minded enough to participate in Brazilian Gi Competitions and also Submission Wrestling events with great success. The impact gym was devised for MMA training and it is MMA that is solely taught there today.
Chief Instructor/s
The chief instructor Kevin O’Hagan, a well known figure in the world of reality training and MMA. He has 30 years martial arts experience behind him and holds a 6th Dan Masters grade in Combat Jujutsu, as well as other black belts. He was the first instructor in the Bristol area to establish an MMA Club. He has competed at semi and pro level in the ring and the cage. He has also captured Gold and Silver medals in the Jujutsu Kumite and silver in the European Brazilian Jujutsu Championships. He trained James ‘The Colossus’ Thompson and was part of the fight team that took him to ‘Pride Fighting Championships’ in Japan. Kevin’s assistant coach is Rob Canon. A veteran Jujutsu man and competitor. Rob is a renowned trainer and knows the MMA game inside out. Also at the club is Muay Thai instructors Martin Hurd and John Munden. Both highly respected and regarded men in their field.
